Big Spring is the county seat of Howard County, Texas, at the crossroads of U.S. Highway 87 and Interstate 20. With a population of almost 30,000, it is the largest city between Midland to the west, Abilene to the east, Lubbock to the north, and San Angelo to the south. Big Spring was established as the county seat of Howard County in 1882; it is the largest community in the county.

We are a quick day trip to Midland/Odessa, San Angelo, Abilene and Lubbock. History buffs, nature and art lovers and homeschoolers alike will love the variety of museums, aquariums, zoos, lakes, parks and historical sites and architecture - all within an hour and a half drive!
Odessa, TX has a lovely memorial to their local hero, Chris Kyle. You can visit the Presidential Archives and Leadership Library, the Odessa Meteor Crater and University of Texas of the Permian Basin's own personal Stonehenge recreation. Then find Jack Ben Jackrabbit and search for his 37 friends across the city.
San Angelo is known for its 1860s U.S. army post Fort Concho National Historic Landmark, the Concho River Walk, The Bosque and Kids' Kingdom, Museum of Fine Arts, Miss Hattie's Bordello Museum and the intriguing Railway Museum. Downtown Concho Avenue is lined with restored 19th- and 20th-century period buildings.
Lubbock, TX boasts archealogical and natural history with the Museum of Texas Tech History, the National Ranching Heritage Center and the amazing Science Spectrum and Omni Theater! Musical legend Buddy Holly has his own museum here, and don't miss the hundreds of adorable prairie dogs at the Prairie Dog Park.
Abilene, TX is a former frontier settlement and is part of the Texas Forts Trail, which you can learn about at the Frontier Texas Museum, Grace Museum and Fort Phantom Hill! It also holds the wonders of wild animals at the renowned Abilene Zoo and Zoological Gardens, too.
